Alexander Hersel, M.D.
PMIR was founded by Alexander P. Hersel, M.D. in 2003 to provide a variety of treatments for both acute and chronic pain. Dr. Hersel
performs all interventional pain management procedures, in addition to medication management and oversight of supplemental therapies.
Dr. Hersel is a graduate of The Hahnemann University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in anesthesia and critical care at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology and Critical Care medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell Medical Center. He pursued further study obtaining his Fellowship in Pain Management at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Dr. Hersel is nationally recognized as one of the few highly trained physicians performing Spinal Cord Stimulator Implants for failed back surgery syndrome. In addition, he performs epidural steroid injections, facet blocks, nerve root blocks, morphine spinal pump implants, and discography among other interventions. |

Mahyar Okhovat, M.D.
Dr. Okhovat started his medical career at UCLA, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Science. He studied medicine at Ross University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Neurology at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles where he was also the chief resident and he was the recipient of the Leo Munoz Outstanding Resident Award. He finished his training at UCLA with a Fellowship in Neuromuscular Disorders and now provides specialization in diagnosing and treating diseases of the nerves and muscles. Dr. Okhovat has special training in utilizing the EMG and nerve Conduction tests to help aide in the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions. |

Bradley Spiegel, M.D.
Dr. Spiegel, a lifelong native of Southern California, was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a major in biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College and performed his internship and a two-year externship in General Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then completed his Residency in Anesthesia, and Board Certification, specializing in Cardiac Anesthesia, Critical Care Medicine and Pain Management at the University of California Medical Center, Los Angeles.
As a physician who has been a leader in the Southern California medical community for 20 years, Dr. Spiegel has set high standards for patient care and offers a multi-disciplinary approach to diagnostics and treatment expertise in the field of interventional pain medicine.
Dr. Spiegel’s professional acumen includes six years as Chief of Anesthesia, Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Thousand Oaks, CA., Associate Clinical Professor, UCLA Medical Center, and is affiliated with Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital, Los Robles Surgery Center, Specialty Surgical Center in Westlake Village, and Broadway Surgical Center in Santa Monica, California.
Dr. Spiegel is active in his community by volunteering for various non-profit events such as the Ventura County Stand Down for Homeless Veterans, the Boy Scouts of America, and Westlake High School team sports. He enjoys snow skiing, fishing, scuba diving and being taken for walks by his three Labrador retrievers. Dr. Spiegel is married and has one son who also is interested in a career in medicine. |

Brandon Nguyen, D.O.
Dr. Nguyen is a Harvard-educated physician, with training in Anesthesiology with further subspecialty training in Pain Medicine. Dr. Nguyen is on the forefront of advanced pain management, incorporating the latest techniques and medical research into his practice to alleviate chronic pain and suffering. He believes in a multi-disciplinary approach to pain management, working with his patients and their families to develop personalized care plans that utilize medications, physical therapy, interventional techniques, and occasionally minor surgery to relieve pain and restore functionality. Dr. Nguyen has published multiple academic paper and book chapters. Dr. Nguyen is double-boarded in Anesthesiology and in Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Biology and French at Wabash College and Lancaster University (U.K.), Dr. Nguyen spent four years in medical school at Midwestern University. After finishing medical school, Dr. Nguyen completed an internship at University of California, San Francisco.
In 2001, he traveled to Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, where he completed an anesthesiology residency. During this time, he was introduced to Pain Management by Dr. Carol Warfield and Dr. Christine Peeters-Asdourian, whom became his mentors. The following year, Dr. Nguyen was selected to do the coveted combined Longwood Harvard Pain fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Brigham Women's Hospital, and Children's Hospital of Boston. Beth Israel Deaconess program is widely considered one of the top pain management programs in the country. Dr. Nguyen also gained rare expertise in pediatric pain management. |
